Hoover High School

Hoover High School exists to provide a learning environment for academic excellence where students think critically, take responsibility for their actions, are connected to the community, and are challenged to reach their individual potential for success in the future. In addition to standard course study the school offers students the opportunity to dedicate their studies to three different academies.

Law Academy is a selective program of 4 electives for students in grades 9-12 who have an interest in law, philosophy, and the historical development of American justice.

The Engineering Academy at Hoover High School is a four-year, college preparatory engineering curriculum. Work began on the curriculum development in 2003. Hoover currently has four engineers on faculty who are developing and implementing the curriculum. Students from the Class of 2008 comprise the inaugural group of students to go through the four-year program. Engineering Academy students must take specified math and science courses each year, as well as taking one engineering elective each year.

The purpose of the Finance Academy is to provide students with the skills and experience necessary to attain entry-level jobs in the career field, as well as the academic preparation for post-secondary education. The program helps link student course work to academic and industry standards to encourage high achievement. Students are also able to begin to develop relationships with local businesses as well as higher education institutions, toward the development of college opportunities for students.
